My Leap of Faith

So this is my very first blog – ever!

I always thought I knew what a blog was, and like loads of other people I’ve read and embraced their messages on numerous occasions. However, it was only when I sat down to actually write this, that it suddenly dawned on me, I have no idea whatsoever what constitutes a good blog and why people might want to read mine?!! It’s a bit like a Best Man’s speech in that sense, you don’t think or ponder on them too much, if at all, until you have to write one!

So I did what all self respecting people do, and I Googled – ‘what makes for a good blog’? Needless to say the internet is swimming with loads of helpful advice and great tips. As overwhelm kicked in, I decided there and then that for me the most important thing is to have fun writing them, being authentic, sharing about who I am, and also my passion for helping others with their personal development, particularly young people and the professionals who work with them. So I do hope you enjoy, and please don’t be too harsh on me all you seasoned and professional bloggers out there!! If I manage to boost my search engine optimisation in the process then that will be a bonus – c’mon google!!

So here goes….!

Have you ever at any point in your life, either as a child or as an adult, stood on the edge of a high diving board looking down at the water below – contemplating, willing, urging yourself to have the guts to jump, to experience the buzz and exhilaration you know you will feel as you step off? If so, you know the feeling you get in your tummy – a combination of sheer excitement coupled with blind terror all mixed into one.

As you stand there, teetering precariously on the edge, toes wiggling, you simultaneously hear that small voice of reason gradually growing louder in your head telling you not to be so reckless, so stupid – tut tutting about putting yourself in needless danger. In that very moment there is a choice to be made – take a leap of faith, or slowly and ignominiously turn around and safely descend the steps knowing you’re safely intact, but at the same time accompanied by crushing disappointment you didn’t go for it? The moment has passed.

If this resonates with you, then it certainly mirrors my journey to establishing Youth Wise. My name is Steve Driscoll and I have climbed those metaphorical diving board steps and delicately balanced on the edge on multiple occasions – only to let my pervasive thoughts of self doubt prevent me from taking my personal leap of faith towards pursuing what I firmly believe to be my main purpose in life – that is, developing a service that helps young people to understand and confront their own self doubt and limiting beliefs, to believe in themselves, harness their skills and talents, nurture hope, strengthen resilience and to encourage and inspire them to live to their fullest potential.

Well – I have finally summoned the courage to take that leap. I am firmly committed to making a positive difference in the world through the services I provide via Youth Wise to help others shine, to encourage them to live authentically and to contribute their skills, talents and value to the world. I’m hoping I make a splash when I land and that the ripples extend far and wide. I want to reach and impact as many people as possible and I intend to enjoy every single exhilarating minute! I’d be delighted if you’d join me on that journey, but I also hope this might encourage you to take your own leap of faith whatever your vision, dream or goal it is you’re harbouring, if you’re still teetering on the edge? Don’t hold back, the world needs you and your gifts!
